Progressive Spirituality Network       "Who We Are"

We are a growing network of people who are:

* Committed to understanding emerging spiritualities especially in the Australian context.

* Committed to exploring the boundaries of belief, ethics and spiritual experience, especially in the light of contemporary knowledge.

* Committed to supporting practices, programs, policies and behaviors in society that are compassionate, just, and ecologically sustainable.

* Committed to both de-construction and re-building the language of metaphor and worldview for interpretation of sacred story and celebratory practices on behalf of everyone’s faith journey including those who have “disappeared”.

We understand ourselves to be part of a broad stream of human spiritual evolution acting out of the witness of Jesus, his Apostles, and the wisdom of the historical Church, attentive to a spiritual awakening with new character, depth and shape.

Through conversation, we question the capacity of current religious institutions to meet the spiritual needs and aspirations of many in our society unless there is significant change.

The Church has never been without scholars to guide the religious communities and we are attentive to their work and witness.

Our original core group comes from the Christian tradition and remains committed to the heart of Christianity - the words and deeds of Jesus, and the experience of the church of the New Testament.

We believe that there are many pathways which lead to spiritual awareness and a life which is reflective of a God of Love – and we welcome to our company all who want to join us on the journey.

The Network is auspiced by the West End Uniting Church.  Our activities are normally based at the West End Uniting Church, Brisbane, Australia.  PSN is an Associate of the global Progressive Christianity Network and the Centre for Progressive Religious Thought and a founding member of the Common Dreams Network Australia Pacific.  The progressive network includes many thousands of congregations, schools, communities and groups from most manifestations of religious life.
